Into the Dim

Simultaneously novel and retro, Into the Dim is a dungeon crawler with a turn-based twist. As you explore grayscale dungeons, you'll need to carefully plan each movement or be attacked by skeletons, flying eyes, and other monsters. Filled with chiptune blips, a delightfully hardcore difficulty, and 8-bit graphics that would feel at home on a Game Boy, it's a rewardingly old-school experience. Editor's Notes

Into the Dim is a secretive RPG adventure game about a boy and his dog. The adventure starts when a young boy chases his dog, which sniffs his way to a broken fence......

There is so much adventurous journeys you can take, knowing that death is lurking round corner. There are viscous monsters, complex puzzles, collectable treasures and each dudgeon has its own mysterious secret. Playing this video game has made me more aware of my surroundings, when first playing it was clear that my goal was to avoid these monsters while making my way to the enchanted door, which then takes me back home before entering the next level.

Personally I find that the storyline of this video game is well written. The main aim of the game is to pass through each dungeon carefully, while picking up treasures that you can find along your way. The money that you collect can be saved and used to by different inventory slots, such as extra life, ammo, move slots. There is also an option to buy coins in advance with the apps purchases from as little as 0.89 - 2.49. Another way to earn money would be to watch a short 30 seconds clip to gain 10 extra coins!

The monsters that you run into are simple but cute, each creature that you run into have a unique charm. Whether that will be, shooting poisonous venom, simple attacks or following and trapping to defeat you. The haptics of the game makes me feel like I am actually in the dungeon myself, feeling the vibrations of each attack makes me want to play and defeat these monsters at all cost! These are what I love mostly about this game.

Few pictures of the gameplay.

The monochrome visuals never fail to excite me, it has a nostalgic feel, especially to those who have grown up during the game-boy era. The audio is simple yet entertaining as the sound of the attacks matches the haptics of this video game.

Some puzzles were difficult to work out out as I would be stuck for a long time, though I did have fun trying to figure it out. It is a productive old-school experience. While passing the walkways, I have noticed that many times the boy had stopped to look at the wall, saying "This wall looks pretty strange". I feel like this could mean that he is confused and is curious about the dungeon which he is currently at. Maybe even leading to a greater adventure?

Some parts of the game are easy, but it's the little things that makes the big problems. Sometimes there would be heart containers around the dungeon nearby the start if the level. I find it difficult to get out without the skeletons, eyes, etc. to spawn around you. It can take a while to reach 15-20 coins, and I feel like the cost of the refill your hearts price of 80 coins is a bit much to then die and the coins that were just spent, goes to waste.

Overall, I would recommend this game, as Into the Dim requires you to think and plan your strategy carefully to overcome these vicious monsters. Its an old-school layout and extremely fun to play. I would rate this a 4 star.

☆☆☆☆

This is an extremely fun game to play if you  are looking for an adventure, explore through the dungeons, discover baffling secrets, defeat the enemies. Can you do do this while death awaits round the corner?
